PR*TEC Pacific Voices Project

The PR*TEC Pacific Voices web site is a place for Pacific Island educators to explore strategies to integrate technology into island classrooms, including technology supports for language arts and literacy, cultural studies, mathematics, science, early learning and special education. The Pacific Voices Project celebrates the beauty and diversity of teachers, children and families of the Pacific, by sharing cultural packages and thematic unit that are supported and enhanced by educational technologies – including multimedia, video and telecommunications.

Celebrating our Diversity - Global Classroom Project [www.globalclassroom.org/cod.html]
The Global Classroom Network sponsors this project in which students from different countries communicate and share information about how to say words and phrases in their native language.

The First Peoples' Project

The I*EARN First Peoples' Project allows indigenous students from around the world to work together on collaborative projects. It allows non-indigenous students to interact with indigenous students to find out information or engage in discussions about issues. The project includes writing, art, and issues relating to indigenous people.

Lesson Plans for South Pacific Island Units [www.k12.hi.us/~wanakamu/lessons.htm]
These lesson plans include several ideas and assignments for students to explore the islands of Micronesia, Polynesia, and Melanesia.

Project METALS: The Multicultural Education for Teachers, Administrators, Learners, and Support Staff Project

Project METALS is designed to provide professional development activities to over 1,200 administrators, pre-service and in-service teachers, and support personnel in the McKinley Complex. The complex is a partnership of the University of Hawaii's College of Education and nine schools in the Honolulu District with the highest number and concentration of limited English proficient (LEP) students.

This website illustrates ways to address the needs of English for Second Language Learners (ESLLs) in our schools and communities. Projects included on this website demonstrate a range of students’ interests and abilities teachers usually encounter in their classrooms. Storytelling through drama and computer-based multimedia authoring present ESLLs with engaging opportunities to develop concurrently basic skills in language arts and higher order thinking skills.

Classroom Activities Relating to Immigration
