Evaluation

PREL has been conducting evaluation for internal and external audiences since 1990. PREL’s evaluation team provides professional, timely, and responsive services. Our evaluations adhere to the Program Evaluation Standards of the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation. These standards help ensure that an evaluation serves the needs of users and is realistic, prudent, diplomatic, legal, ethical, and technically adequate.
PREL helps a variety of organizations determine whether their programs are effective (summative evaluation) and how to improve them (formative evaluation). Systematic collection and analysis of data enables informed decisions about whether programs make a difference in the lives of people who participate.

PREL’s evaluation team provides the following services:

  1. Needs assessments—needs sensing surveys, focus groups, meeting planning, and large-scale data analysis and interpretation
  2. Program evaluation services—program logic models, formative and summative evaluations, performance indicator systems, and assistance to external program evaluations
  3. Technical assistance and training—strengthening the capabilities of educators and agencies in the planning and evaluation of their programs

Workshops

Introduction to Program Evaluation

Audience: Planners, Grant Writers, Social Programs Evaluators
Learn a step-by-step model for the conduct of program evaluation, including the basic steps to an evaluation, logic modeling as a tool for developing evaluation questions, and methods for collecting, interpreting, and using evaluation information. This workshop uses the National Science Foundation’s “User-Friendly Handbook for Project Evaluation” (NSF 02-057), which is provided to all participants.

Program Planning and Evaluation Tools Workshop

Audience: Planners, Administrators, Grant Writers, Social Programs Evaluators
This workshop will build participants’ skills in the development of logic models—a program planning and evaluation tool that helps align program activities to goals and objectives and that helps determine how to measure a program’s success. Hands-on activities will give participants practice in differentiating between outputs and outcomes, developing long and short term outcomes, developing SMART objectives, choosing appropriate measures and indicators, and ultimately constructing a program logic model. No formal training in evaluation is required.
