What does a standards-based classroom look like, and how does one go about assessing students using these standards? This session provides an overview of standards-based education in the context of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). We will discuss the “teaching – learning cycle” and other research-driven “best practices.” Learn about the formative assessment process: how to determine achievement targets within a content standard and develop appropriate aligned assessments.

How do you use data to make decisions? Quality professional development, curriculum, and instruction rely upon a good assessment system. As school leaders, you must be able to recognize what data are telling you, and then work with the school staff to determine what can be done about the information revealed. As a result of participating in this workshop, you will learn how various teachers and schools have used assessment data to improve instruction for all groups of students. You will learn how to diagnose learning or programmatic gaps to identify topics, skills, and processes that can be implemented to improve effectiveness.
Audience: Assessment Specialists, Accountability Specialists, Administrators, Teachers
Do you know which students are learning? Do you know what students are learning? How do you track student achievement? This workshop demonstrates how assessment plays a role in standards-based education. Topics will include test design concepts, formats, and item writing. Obtain quality data through valid and reliable standards-based assessments that are contextually appropriate for your students.
