Module Information

In Course 1, you will focus on collaboration and assessment. In Module 1, you will set up the organizational process for the rest of the course to include a reflection journal and weekly Collaboration Group meetings with student roles. In addition, you will look at cultural standards and think about how you will integrate these standards in your culturally responsive classrooms, learn key reading terms, and read about risk factors in reading difficulties.

In Module 1, you will:

    • Write a personal literacy narrative and a philosophy statement about the teaching of reading.
    • Make personal connections through a reflection journal and weekly Collaboration Group meetings.
    • Participate productively in the Collaboration Group process.
    • Identify how cultural standards are integrated into your classroom.
    • Define key terms in reading instruction and explain beginning literacy concepts.
    • Read and discuss the risk factors related to reading difficulties and use that information in planning instruction.
    • Evaluate your own growth and the effectiveness of the module.
