The following websites contain useful information and resources for teachers with English language learners (ELLs) in their classes. ELLs are also often referred to as English as a second language (ESL) students. See “English Language Learners” for more information about terminology.

Stop in at Dave’s ESL Cafe for a full menu of ESL learning materials. The site provides resources for ESL teachers and students. The “Idea Cookbook” link for teachers provides many exercises teachers can use. There are also a reas for students to seek help and engage in interactive learning.

EVERYTHING ESL

This website, authored by longtime ESL teacher Judie Haynes, contains many articles, tips, and suggestions. The “Lesson Plans” link provides access to several lessons and downloadable files that can be used by K-12 teachers with ESL students. The “Teaching Tips” area provides a wealth of information on strategies and modifications appropriate for classrooms with ESL students.

ESL THROUGH MUSIC LESSON PLANS

This lesson “swap meet” lets educators publish and search lesson plans that incorporate music into English language acquisition activities. Teachers submit ideas on how to use music to enhance vocabulary, speaking, writing, listening, and reading comprehension skills. There is a range of lesson plans appropriate for use with all ages, from young children to adult learners.
