Enhancing community well-being through partnerships in education
The Pacific Educator in Residence (PEIR) program offers a 1-year* residency for educators from the 10 Pacific jurisdictions served by PREL. A collaborative effort of PREL, the departments of education (DOEs), and institutions of higher education (IHEs) in the Pacific region, the PEIR program enhances and develops the personal and professional skills of Pacific educators in the context of PREL's ongoing work. PEIRs focus on learning experiences that maximize professional development opportunities and benefit their schools and communities. In general, PEIRs remain employed in their home entities and return at the end of their 1-year* term. See our list of Pacific Educators in Residence.
Any teacher, administrator, counselor, or faculty member employed by a school system or IHE within PREL's service area may apply. PREL's service area includes American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap), Guam, Hawai'i, the Republic of Palau, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. To be eligible, applicants must also obtain approval signature on their application form from their current employer or Chief State School Officer.
A PEIR preferably holds a bachelor's degree or higher; however, applicable professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Applicants should have a demonstrated background in one or more areas of research, teaching, curriculum/program development, educational administration, educational technology, or other field applicable to PREL's mission and programs.
PREL is no longer accepting PEIR applications for residency year 2011-2012. Please check back in April 2012.
The term of residency is 1 year, unless otherwise specified in the Announcement Letter. PEIRS do not receive a salary from PREL, but a monthly stipend is provided.
The PEIR program is funded through contracts and grants with the U.S. Department of Education and other federal agencies in collaboration with Pacific DOEs and IHEs.
