PREL Announces New CNMI Assessment Contract

Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) has announced a new contract to provide data management, curriculum, and assessment services to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Public School System (PSS) and State Board of Education. The work will be performed by PREL’s Pacific Assessment Systems and Services and will take place from July through October 2007.

The contract is valued at $230,000. PREL will begin by writing the annual accountability report for the CNMI. Subsequent phases of the project will involve developing a sample performance assessment and rubric for each of the benchmarks in reading, writing, math, science and social studies; reviewing and revising the standards in the subject areas of health, fine arts, social studies, physical education, English, English language Learners, and technology; aligning the standards and benchmarks to courses assigned for grades 7 to 12; and providing technical assistance for the special education alternate assessment reporting.

PREL is an independent, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) corporation that works in partnership with the Pacific educational community to provide quality programs and products developed to promote educational excellence, including professional development and educational materials. In addition, PREL administers the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Pacific, 1 of 10 Regional Educational Laboratories funded through the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
