PREL Names Rodrigo Maurico Director of FSM Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC)

Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) is proud to name long-time PREL Specialist Rodrigo Mauricio to lead PREL’s Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC) in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM: Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap).
Mauricio will be relocating from PREL’s headquarters in Honolulu, where he has been based since 1989, and returning home to Pohnpei in mid-2007 to assume his duties as Director of the FSM PIRC.
PREL recently announced that it was awarded a 5-year grant, totaling $850,000 in the first year alone, to continue the work of its FSM and Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) PIRCs. Supported by the U.S. Department of Education (U.S. ED) under a Parental Assistance Grant, the PIRCs work to establish strong partnerships between parents and schools, help parents increase their knowledge and confidence in child rearing, and ensure that children are well-prepared to begin school. A central part of this work is encouraging parents to be more involved in the schools and in their children’s education.
PREL is an independent, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) corporation that works in partnership with the Pacific educational community to provide quality programs and products developed to promote educational excellence, including professional development and educational materials. In addition, PREL administers the Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Pacific, 1 of 10 Regional Educational Laboratories funded through the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
