Sonja Evensen

Evaluation Specialist

Ms. Sonja Evensen is an Evaluation Specialist for several programs at PREL. She has assisted with evaluation design and with defining measurable outcomes within program contexts and settings for various programs in Hawai‘i and the Pacific region. She helped develop culturally relevant indicators for programs funded under the Native Hawaiian Education Act, and specializes in working with community-based organizations and helping them navigate the world of evaluation.

Ms. Evensen has worked in health and education for more than 15 years. Her academic background is in public health, social pedagogy, and evaluation. She has served as a Lecturer for the University of Hawai‘i’s School of Public Health in Planning and Needs Assessment. Ms. Evensen is the former Director and current Board Member of Hui Malama o ke Kai, an after school program for at-risk youth in Waimanalo, Hawai‘i. Her professional experience includes university-level instruction, program management, planning, research, and evaluation.
