Kyaw Soe

Senior Research Specialist

Dr. Kyaw Soe is currently a Senior Research Specialist at PREL. He joined PREL in 1993 as an Evaluation Specialist. He is currently responsible for the design and implementation of evaluation and assessment approaches and tools in support of PREL research and school/instruction improvement activities. Dr. Soe develops specialized research models and systems, conducts training, and provides technical assistance in assessment and evaluation for programs and schools throughout the Pacific. He has designed data collection and analysis systems for state education agencies, and other government agencies in the Pacific. For example, Dr. Soe designed, developed, and trained school personnel on the Pacific Education Data Management System that provides schools with an easy framework and tool to collect school-level data for the first time.

Prior to joining PREL, Dr. Soe worked in Burma for 23 years, from 1962 to 1985. During that time, he taught secondary school mathematics, was a mathematics curriculum coordinator, and later served as a lecturer at a teacher training college and at a university in Rangoon. Dr. Soe speaks Russian, Japanese, English, and his native Burmese.
