Ms. Oakland was born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and graduated from Kamehameha Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hawaiian studies and a teaching certificate in secondary education from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, and a Master of Arts degree in educational counseling from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Oakland is the Vice Principal of Ke Kula 'o 'Ehunuikaimalino School and has 10 years of experience teaching in Hawaiian language immersion schools and teaching adult community education Hawaiian language classes. She is a member of the School Community Council at Ke Kula ‘o ‘Ehunuikaimalino School and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
