Director of Education, American Samoa Department of Education
Currently the Director of the American Samoa Department of Education, Dr. Claire Salafai Tuia Poumele has also worked as deputy director, assistant director for the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, as well as assistant director for the Secondary Division, all in the Department of Education. With over 30 years’ experience dedicated to education in American Samoa, Dr. Poumele has held positions as teacher, vice principal, and principal, working in Leone High School, Samoana High School, and Tafuna High School.
Dr. Poumele has also contributed to PREL’s mission in the past as chairperson of the Pacific Curriculum and Instructional Council and as a workshop instructor.
Dr. Poumele received her doctor of education degree in Higher Education Administration from Brigham Young University, and she holds a master of education degree from the University of Portland.
