Long, long ago there were five little brothers named Tom Thumb, Foreman, Tall Man, Ring Man and Short Man. These five little brothers used to move together in only one direction for they stayed very close to each other. They helped each other in every task assigned to them except for Tom Thumb. He considered himself the smartest, yet he was such a lazy bones. He didn't usually get up 'till noontime and he always grumbled everytime he was assigned to do something. All he wanted to do was to eat and sleep.

Tom 'Thumb, get up!" his brothers would call to him.

"I'm still sleepy!" Tom 'Thumb always answered. He would only get up when he knew that breakfast was ready.

"Tom Thumb, It's your turn to wash the dishes," his brothers reminded him after breakfast one day.

"I don't feel like doing anything. Short Man, you do the dishes," he ordered instead.

That same day their father was going to town. He told his five sons to wait for him for lunch.

"I'll be right back," he said. "I hope you'll all do your chores while I'm gone."

“Yes, Father," replied the four brothers, but Tom Thumb just kept silent. As soon as their father had left, Tom Thumb went back to bed while his other

brothers worked. They cleaned the house and fed the pigs and chickens. They watered the plants in the garden. All that time, Tom Thumb was sleeping. Perhaps he was just pretending he was asleep. Soon he heard his stomach growling. He felt hungry so he got up and looked around for his brothers.

"I'm very hungry now. Have you fixed lunch yet?" he asked Foreman.

"You heard what father told us. Nobody eats until he gets home," answered Foreman firmly.

"Yes - That's what father said!" seconded Tall Man.

"You should learn to listen, lazy-bones!" Ring Man and Short Man shouted together.

The four brothers were getting impatient with Tom Thumb. But that didn't bother him at all. Instead, when he saw that his brothers were not looking at him, he sneaked into the kitchen and little by little he took some food from the pot.

"Aha! kilang soun pirapet! Ke udahn sohte kak awih eh?" Foreman idek.

"Aha! And look at this thief! You really couldn't wait, huh?" yelled Foreman.

The other three brothers were startled by Foreman's loud voice. They turned to look at what he was mad about. They saw Tom Thumb's mouth so stuffed with food that he was unable to speak.

"Thief!" shouted Tall Man.

"And greedy, too!'' Ring Mari yelled.

"Lazybones!" shouted Short Man.

"Get out of here! Go away! We don't want a lazy and greedy brother!" shouted the four brothers as they all pushed Tom 'Thumb away. Tom Thumb wasn't as strong as the four of them. They pushed him away - so far away that he was almost separated from his brothers. Of course, when their father arrived, he was angry to learn what Torn Thumb had done.

"From now on, Tom Thumb," said his father, "even if you're far from your brothers, you are to help them in everything they do!"
